HES innovative approach to attracting and sustaining visitors includes on-site exhibitions at their stunning properties, experimenting with unvoiced social history at Blackness Castle and Stanley Mills and participatory and interactive pieces at McLellans Castle Kirkudbright and at Craigmillar Castle, Edinburgh.
For two years we have devised and undertaken on-site face-to-face interviews to establish with the public their views and experiences of Historic Scotland exhibitions. The enjoyable discussions tease out attitudes to the intellectual and physical form of contemporary art shows in a heritage environment and produce fascinating results that we collate and report to inform the future direction of their programme.
